Taw Valley (seconds)6 Weston Super Mare thirds (0)
Continuing their run of success in the Sedgemoor league, Taw Valley seconds came away with a convincing win over Weston-Super-Mare thirds.
Player of the match Niki Miller-Marshall provided some excellent through balls for the forwards and Jill Thorne opened the scoring from one of these only minutes into the first half. Miller-Marshall followed quickly with a second. Keely Jones showed her defensive skills by denying Weston much scope in attack and starting many attacking moves for Taw from midfield herself. Although Captain Sally Poll was unlucky not to convert any of the many penalty corners Taw won, rebounds were put into the goal to boost the scoreline.
Beccy Addison also continued to make her presence felt in midfield. Centre forward Katie Roach worried the Weston defence for much of the match and played an excellent hard hit across the goal which was converted for a final flourish. Other goals came from Thorne, Jones, Addison and Gill Robins.
A solid performance by Kirstie Hughes at the back kept a clean sheet for Taw who have now risen to fifth place in the league table.
Taw Valley 2nds 1- Winscombe 3
Taw Valley 2nds were unlucky not to maintain their unbeaten recent runs with another against Winscombe on Saturday.
An early opening goal from the opposition did not deter Taw in attack and the pressure was kept on for most of the first half. Superb play from Daisy Meadowcroft and Bella Richards in midfield kept Taw in with a chance to equalise but it was not until the second half that an impressive strike from Meadowcroft drew Taw level.
Strong, steady defensive work from captain Sally Poll and Niki Miller Marshall gave Taw further scoring opportunities but despite persistence from strikers Jill Thorne and Katie Roach Taw were unable to add to their goal tally.
Player of the match Milly Peart in goal gave an excellent performance with some fine saves keeping the final scoreline down.
Continuing their run of good results, Taw Valley 2nds came away with a well deserved win against Taunton Vale 6 on Saturday. They started with a concerted attack within the first ten minutes and were unlucky to not be ahead in this time. Midfield players Hattie Rousseau and Mollie Helicon provided some excellent through balls for the attack, Jill Thorne producing the winning goal with a decisive hit after some relentless pressure from Taw. In the second half Taunton Vale came back with determination. Jan Reid and Megan Huntingdon supported well at the back, complimenting Becca Wells, who, having injured her ankle in the warm up, stepped into goalie position and made a couple of crucial saves to help secure the win. This good team effort from Taw helped maintain their position in the top half of their league.
